About Worldwide Realtors Company LimitedWorldwide Realtors Company Limited was established in 2001 and since then has nurtured what the VP of Special Projects Colin Scott likes to call emotional intelligence. Recognizing and understanding the implications of emotions and being able to accurately self-assess one’s inner resources, abilities and limits are key to becoming an emotionally intelligent leader. Being able to read emotional currents is an important skill for managers to develop and employ. It requires them to know and understand the individuals within their teams and the way in which the individuals relate and interact. At no time is this more important than when selecting a new member to join the team. Recruiting and selecting committed company staff who offer valuable individuality is key to an organization’s health and effectiveness. The criteria used to reject or accept applicants are a major indicator of an organization's values and beliefs. The selection process has been described as a ‘cultural sieve’ and as an important method of control. Indeed, Colin Scott has suggested that organizations need to review their selection requirements and instead of checking that every minute of every day is accounted for when appointing applicants, they should consider applicants who have ‘broken out’ from the mould, rebelled from the system and thus demonstrated original thought. Scott regards such personal qualities as key attributes for leading edge organizations. However this individualistic approach contrasts with the notion that organizations need team players who will he co-operative. As soon as the new recruits begin their employment, a ‘psychological contract’ is struck which forms the basis for obedience and conformity expected of the employees by the company. The manager’s responsibility is to ensure that the socialization process enables the new recruits to quickly learn the rules of the system. Rewards, if given at this stage, for correct behavior and attitudes will promote conformity and provide further incentives for the individuals to match the organization's needs. .
